The gaming industry has grown a lot since years ago. The number of online gamers in India grew 31% in 2019 at 356 million and expected to reach 440 million by 2022 as per the EY-FICCI report released in March 2020. The industry is said to be around $4billion by 2024.
The All India Gaming Federation and the apex industry body for Online Skill Gaming platforms in India, along with the Times of India and Vijay Karnataka hosted a webinar titled, ‘Karnataka, Are you game for future?’ As part of their ‘Game for Future’ campaign with the topic ‘Thriving Ecosystem of Online Skill Gaming’ the webinar included a huge panel where they pointed out several perspectives.
In the session Shweta Kohli, Director and Head of Public Policy, Sequoia India & South East Asia said, “It is exciting that India is one of the top 5 mobile gaming markets. Our country alone makes up for about 13% of the global market share. The pandemic has provided better acceptance of digital technology.” She further added, “When a category has so much of consumer attraction, it is only natural for the investor community to be interested in it. The one thing that investors look for is certainty and regulating clarity and this is what is plaguing the industry right now and needs to be fixed.”
India’s market is glued with cheap phones and cheap data. Smartphone prices have been dropping for years. So as the smartphones are available from an increase in internet penetration and an evolving set of gaming options, a primary driver of growth is entertainment. 86% of those surveyed by KPMG declared that entertainment was the main reason for playing online games. The creation of online casino and poker sites, the market has grown at a rapid rate and is now worth more than $500 million. That puts it in with other types of subsectors of the industry and, in turn, supports the argument that India is fast becoming an online gaming hotspot.
Both technical and non-technical candidates can get into the gaming field. The field must be chosen based on the core skill of the person. A person with technical skill can get into the designing and development part whereas for a non-technical candidate, the trick is simple, they can play as many games and can build a good account to help provide inputs on the designing, basic concepts of gaming, sketching how the game will look like and many more. 2021 stipulates to be a year of striking increase in the rate of mobile gaming. The outcome generated the development of more mobile games. Which means tremendous work for game developers and possibly, a total overhaul in ways of developing online games.
Conclusion
The future of online gaming looks bright in 2021 with the existence of new trends and technology. Games can be easily accessed, stimulating gaming experiences, and convenience in the gaming market already. Online gaming is the next upbeat thing and the generation is moving forward for that.
