VR and AR are the two technologies that are fluctuating the way we use screens. This creates new and exciting experiences both in a different way. It helps an individual to immerse into it to experience an entirely different reality. The historical journey of Virtual Reality began back in the 1800’s. This amazing idea has been evolving from the time practical photography came into existence. Morton Heilig invented the first VR device called Sensorama in 1957.his multimedia device the Sensorama is considered one of the earliest VR systems. 

The word Virtual Reality was forged later by Jaron Lanier in 1987 during his intense research on this evolving technology. Numerous companies are investing billions of dollars in the VR sector.

The world you are walking in is replaced with a virtual one. Everything you see or everything you hear is replaced with something computer generated. VR places are also navigable. It possesses an ability to move through them and use hands to manipulate things within them. 

VR is not just about gaming. The potential of VR does not end there. It is innovating many other industries like education, military medicine and sports. 

VR in Real life

  1. VR 360 is a 360 degree audio visual stimulation. It serves the user to look around in any direction similar to that of how we look and observe things in real life. 
  2. Class VR is a new concept found in the educational field. They utilize tech to raise the engagement and knowledge retention for students of all ages. They use VR headsets with user friendly interface for both students and teachers.

AR Technology

Augmented Reality is when you look at the real world but it’s augmented with additional information or graphics in the view. The AR serves in performing tasks better and efficiently. The key element of this AR concept is that the things are indexed to a location. That is they occupy a relevant place in your view as opposed to moving with your gaze as you turn your head. In many cases you can interact with those visuals that are augmenting your view.

AR isn’t a new technology. It has been around for numerous decades. Ivan Sutherland. The first AR gadget called Sword of Democles during 1968. The system utilized computer graphics to exhibit user’s simple wireframe drawings.

AR can be had through a phone and one of the many AR apps. For higher performance dedicated AR glasses. AR is increasingly being referred to MR or Mixed Reality. It’s a marketing name and part acknowledgement of AR’s ability to augment the real world while also bringing in unreal elements.

Augmented Reality has seen gaining popularity over the past few years. The innovation is not stopping anytime soon. AR is providing brands to provide their customers with unique experiences that can prove to be the difference between purchase and dropout.

  1. Google Maps: it places digital directions on top of the real world and shows you where to walk or travel.
  2. Google Lens: it is another application that enhances the search experience. You don’t have to type a query any more with Google Lens. All you have to do is open the app and aim it at what you want. Google lens will identify the objects and pass the essential details about it. 
  3. Snapchat: Snapchat filters have become a trend among the younger generations. These are one of the best examples of AR.
  4. Facebook has plans to build AR glasses to create 3d maps of the world.

AR AND VR are here to take the world by storm with its innovative abilities. Augmented Reality adds digital elements to a live environment. While Virtual Reality conveys a fully immersive experience that shuts out the physical world. Modifying human experiences and helping brands market their products efficiently and successfully to allure their target audiences.
