Google Play is a digital distribution service including media stores. The Google Play Store is originally the android market operated and developed by Google. Google Play also serves as the official app store for the android operating system which allows the users to browse and download applications developed by android SDK and published through Google.

Google Play has now updated the Real-Money gambling, games and Contests policies so that more developers can build sustainable businesses and also keeps the consumers safe. Google has announced that they are introducing new requirements for games, loyalty programs that are based on a qualified monetary transaction in an app and offer prizes of cash or other real-world cash equivalent benefits. The Google Play developers are creating exclusive features to meet the needs of the consumers. These features are usually launched during any sporting occasions or festivals said in a blog. The declaration claimed that the new policies are designed to safeguard users and optimize the developer experience.

Scores of apps run gamified loyalty programs in their apps for the satisfaction and win the users. Previous year, the company sent notices to several Indian startups including Paytm, Zomato, and Swiggy whose in-app gamifying techniques, the company said at the time, resembled gambling. The tech giant pointed out that the new rules would not be applicable for real money gambling apps on the Play Store in India, which will remain banned for the time being. Google had asked the companies to end the engagement in such gamifying techniques. The new policy covers developers worldwide, the company said.

Google Play is also launching a web resource called ‘How Google Play Works’, a repository of information and best practices to enable developers to continue delivering innovative and secure apps and games to people around the world. It also contains India-specific details on programs that local developers can leverage to find success and scale. For users, this site helps to demystify key aspects of the Google Play platform. wrote Suzanne Frey, Vice President, Product, Android Security and Privacy, in a blog post.

Google claims over 20 Billion apps and games are downloaded each year from the Play Store. Consumer spend on apps and games created by Indian developers doubled and consumer spend from users outside of India grew by more than 80% in 2019-20.
